Job Title: Thin Film Process Engineering Manager

Job Description: Primary Responsibility: Provides leadership and direction to the Process Engineering Team. Establishes strategic roadmap, goals, metrics, and individual deliverables to meet the objective of providing industry-leading optical thin film design solutions to REO customers. Managers team responsibilities including trouble shooting and resolving thin film process issues, developing documented processes, procedures, and controls for manufacturing operations, and developing technical equipment and process capability for both evaporative and ion beam sputtering processes. Responsible for professional development of thin film process engineers. Major Responsibilities: 1. Sets TF Process Engineering project priorities with a focus on identifying and improving equipment and process opportunities such as yield, cycle time, stability, and cost. Drives deeper understanding and strategic improvement of REO’s coating process technology, including evaporative and ion beam sputtering processes. 2. Establishes quarterly team objectives and metrics to measure progress. Holds department meetings aligned with team objectives and focused on developing depth of individual team member’s process knowledge and breadth of team member’s knowledge of what others are working on. 3. Monitors and manages the workload of theft process engineering team. Holds regular 1:1’s with team members, delegates responsibilities, ensures priority focus is aligned with team objectives. Communicates progress and status of responsibilities to the Director. 4. Ensures TF Process Engineering team works closely with operations team to ensure TF process performance, and effective engineering troubleshooting of process, equipment , and quality performance breakdowns. 5. Champions clearly defined and aligned roles and responsibilities between TF coating operations and TF process engineering. Drives documentation of existing and new process procedures, training of operations on proper process execution and troubleshooting response. 6. Develops strong alignment of team with R&D roadmap, and the transfer of new processes into manufacturing. Ensures the TF process engineering team is driving execution of thin film prototypes to the production schedule. 7. Identifies and creates opportunities for individual technical and professional growth of the TF Process Engineers.
Job Qualifications: 1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or Material Science.) 2. Comprehensive knowledge of optical thin film theory, design, and evaporative and ion beam sputtering processes. 3. 5+ years management experience preferred. Experienced managing engineers in a technical manufacturing setting required, preferably in the optical thin film manufacturing industry. 4. Ability to effectively communicate with the customer on highly technical issues.
